Tasted at the winery: Mad from wines ranging between 30 and 130 years old... What a delight! Color of black coffee with smells and taste that went on and on forever. To taste such wines off such volume, length and intensity is actually 0physically and mentally exhausting because there is wave after wave of hedonistic impressions and ash the end there are simply not enough words to describe the tasting sensations... The reason why we bought a bottle of the Rare Muscadelle and not the rare Muscat is that the Muscadelle had a more lively acidic backbone which - to us - spelled greater vibrancy...

Winery visits Jan 2023; 1/13/2023-1/27/2023 (Vic, Tas): {375ml, screwcap, 18%, A$250} At $10 for a small taste, this is still probably cheaper pro rata than buying the bottle – it’s surely nearer a 25ml serve than 15! It’s an impenetrable murky brown, a treacly thing, more akin to a syrup than a liquid. It’s a muscat essence, massively acidic and sweet and persistent. One or two mouthfuls are enough. Seems heftier than I recall a decade ago. It’s pretty special but even so the price is a bit silly.

SLDS Reunion Tasting (Bentley, Sydney, Australia): From 375ml. Lifted nose of chocolate, raisin, tobacco, toffee and ash. The palate is quite explosive and rich, with a viscosity that is just amazing to sip through. Despite how dense and powerful this is, there is a sense of focus that is much needed to carry this across the palate. A perfect way to end a night of stunning wine. My second encounter with this wine and one that I am happy to repeat any time I'm lucky enough to have the chance.

Excellent wine. Viscous. Figs, raisins with an orange liqueur note.

A Matter of Taste: New York (The Conrad NY | Del Posto): This is very sweet and more intense and a bit nutty and some raisins and all of that. It's got a yummy style to it.
