  • It's times like these that I query the wisdom of making bordelais wines in Sicily. There is something of the typical right-bank profile on the nose overheated by the Mediterranean sun, with damsons, overripe red fruits, dark cocoa, sweet tobacco, and stewed prune. Very linear, and essentially soulless on the palate: crowd-pleasing, soft tannins, a core of ripe and sweet fruit (stewed plums and damsons again, some cherry compote), and a hint of tobacco on the finish. Certainly not a bad wine, but one which is cynically made for the mass market - the casual drinker's impression of what a good wine is. To be fair, this is well-made and quite pleasing to drink, but don't expect much depth or character from it. Definitely not a wine for laying down.

  • Delightful light initial flavor with a fruity but not sweet finish.
