  Lovely core of red cherry fruit with cassis and meaty, nutty quality. Not a great deal of complexity but very pure quality of fruit. Delicious.

  Although supposedly past its drinking window this still has lots of fresh cherry fruit, strawberry, savory nuances, and saddle leather on the nose. Finishes with lots of tart cherry flavors. Really nice!

  Final wine of the evening at Catalunya with friends. Birthday Month Dinner yet again...will we survive? Brownish red on the eye. We were a little worried she had sallied forth to the last level of yucky-pooh wine. Aromas of wet forest (sois bois), heavy mushroom and vegetation, musty law books and soft fruits. Silky, smooth tannins, virtually no body. She sashayed down our gullet like Ribena with a touch of alcohol and good acidity. We do not see any future for this blend of Tempranillo and Garnacha, but it was a happy ending to the evening.

  This was really nice; red cherry fruit, drinking like a great Burgundy. It was still recognizable as Rioja, but only the top end of rioja.

  De color rubí rojizo de capa media-alta, oscuro. No hay asomo de precipitados, limpísimo. Reflejos grandinos y anaranjados, sin mucho brillo. Borde amplio, cobrizo, con marcada diferencia respecto al menisco.
  
  De gran intensidad inicial, algo duro incluso, repleto de apuntes de maderas viejas y palillo, duelas húmedas, que no son capaces de tapar la avalancha de fruta confitada que se le viene encima: tornaselada en especias, infusionada en hierbas aromáticas, té de roca, hinojo... Aquí hay más garnacha de lo declarado y con un marcado acento meridional difícil de ubicar. ¿Uvas de nuevos viñedos? No parece un Viña Ardanza al uso. Se le suman descriptivos clásicos (hebras de tabaco, cacao en polvo, mondadura de naranjas) que no alcanzan a camuflar tanta vitalidad.
  
  En boca se presenta maduro, voluptuoso, graso, pero medido en todo momento, con gran equilibrio, sin renunciar al empuje habitual. Lleno de fruta roja, jugosa, fresca, vestido con un matiz de vainilla. Más hecho que en nariz pero con un largo carmino. Qué gustazo poder rescatar uno de estos Ardanza "desclasificados" por las premuras del mercado y beberlo en plenitud. Está en ese punto de equilibrio casi perfecto entre la entrega inmediata de los primeros años, y ya van 15, y la promesa de lo que va a llegar a ser en otros tantos de espera.

  80% tempranillo, 20% garnacha - 13% vol.
  La garnacha procede de viñedos ubicados en Tudelilla y el resto de uvas son originarias de la finca Viña Ardanza de Montecillo así como de pequeños productores de las localidades de Haro, Briñas, Briones, Villalba y Labastida. Realiza la primera fermentación en depósitos de acero inoxidable. Trasegado a barricas de roble americano de 225 litros en abril de 2000. Es sometido a crianza durante un periodo de 36 meses, con un total de 2 trasiegas manuales cada año hasta la fecha de su embotellado, en noviembre de 2003. Un mínimo de 24 meses de guarda en botellero en los calado de la bodega antes de ser comercializado.
