  • NobleRottersSydney - Ten & Twenty years - 04 & 94 reds (360 Bar & Dining, Sydney): {cork, 13%} (Geoffrey) Bin 9025 this vintage. The third of Geoffrey’s ‘pray-and-open’ bottles; and guess what; a third bullseye! That restores the balance somewhat… If they’d picked this 12 months earlier it would have been a ’94; but I doubt there was much to choose from with those particular Hunter vintages. This has an aged, but pleasant nose of furniture polish and earth. There’s nothing primary about this, although it’s still pretty fruity beside hermitage. Lovely long, soft juicy finish, with gentle dusty tannins, near medium weight and natural tasting medium acid. A delightful surprise in every respect.

  • Lovely mature Oz shiraz. Not as high octane as the current vintages - this beauty has aged nicely and was a very well balanced and food friendly treat. Still pretty dark showing its age only with a dark garnet brick rim. Interesting nose, currant and bilberry fruit, Delicious on the palate, medium to full bodied, dry but with nice sweet cherry, plum fruit, very savoury with well balanced acidity. Little to no tannins. Picks up a nice currant, leathery note on the very long finish. This was delicious - and only 13.0% ABV unlike the current Oz shiraz releases....

Went very well with a lamb shank braised in wine with lentils with garlic and mushrooms.
