  • Nose: white flower, honey, hints of tangerine,
Notes: a very Puligny kind of nose and that will probably be my guess if tasted blind. A rather floral nose and a round body makes this wine quite an attractive one. This wine needs perhaps 20-30 minutes to breathe in the bottle in order to get to its best state. One can say the color is slightly advanced for this wine and it's probably true that this is not built for the long haul. I have a case of this and the first bottle was premoxed so I was quite worried about this whole batch until today. Certainly ready to drink now.

  • Nose: white flowers, dried fig, peach, sweet potato
Notes: color is quite golden and I would say this wine is probably on the verge of premox. Given a 1er Cru of this pedigree it's actually a shame that I am experiencing advanced notes like this at this age. I hope this is just bottle variation and I think I am willing to give it another try. Purely judging from the performance of the wine from today from this particular bottle I'm quite disappointed.

  • Very rich and ripe, tropical with lots of pineapple aromas. Unctuous, almost like a Viogner, too much for meMy previous encounters of other recent vintages showed much more classic proportions than this 2012.

  • Under Diam 15. One-ish hour decant. Bright yellow gold color with zero hint of premox.

Despite the oversized bottle, this was a wine of balance and not an overripe powerhouse. I know there's not an actual correlation, but the monster truck bottle is often a warning sign. You get well delineated orchard and stone fruit, with bits of citrus and occasional underripe pineapple being the furthest swing of the pendulum. Judicious oak, that adds complexity, but doesn't dominate. There are creamy malo notes but it doesn't getat all buttery or overdone. The main strength comes in its expression of terroir and there's a huge mineral seam that is the foundation of this wine and it really rises up on the long finish.

This isn't a wine that will wow you with the intensity of flavor, but I think there's plenty for this to age on and this seemed much fresher than eight years old.

  • We sipped after a 4 hour sashimi and sushi lunch complemented by 2002 Dom Ruinart and 1996 and 1999 Dom Perignon. Hard work! Bright and fresh on the eye...inviting! Aromas of Bangkok klong (human like detritus wafting through the air in an oddly enticing manner) with a touch of citrus and oak. Palate is vanilla, honey-cream on smokey toast. Hitting on all cylinders, she will lay down for quite a few more years. A tad fresh and tight at the moment, but fun to taste. Debutante at Daddy Rich's ball...cheeky church goer at the moment...she will wow the world (or her little part thereof) in a few years...then settle into full blossom as The Lady of the Country Club. Difficult QPR, but worthy of at least one spin...we dare you not to beg for a second!
