Even after all these years this Dehlinger Syrah still maintains a nice ruby red color and a very pleasant nose with berries showing through. The tannins are just about gone, but there is still some structure with hints of spices. Enjoyed this Syrah over a 4 hour period, including using a cup in tonight's recipe of an Italian sausage with spices served over a Penne pasta. Still have 3 bottles left which I'll attempt to drink in the near future.

Still pretty dark in color. Threw a good amount of sediment. Nose of smoke, some ripe black and blue fruit and black pepper. Similar flavors on the palate but devoid of any structure at this point. Low to medium- acid and no tannins. Still tasty and enjoyable to drink but probably a few years past prime. Drink up if holding any while there is still some fruit left.

Last of four bottles I bought circa 2003 and the first to finally 'show'. All priors tasted of black fruit and raw yams with aggressive tannins; this one was relaxed, harmoniously full of supple red fruit and good aged syrah character. Not terribly complex but very enjoyable; however, I don't think it has anything to prove beyond here. Too bad we opened the others too soon.

Obviously held too long, but surprisingly not dead yet, either. Much of the fruit was gone, but even that seemed better after an hour of decantering.

Sadly, this well-cellared bottle was the victim of severe cork taint.
