Opened at a party, so only got a taste. That said, I made sure to keep getting a few tastes. Decanted and clearly got better with more and more air. Surprisingly alive at 17 years old, only the slightest of bricking. Still plenty of fruit but the spice was rich and warm.

Medium-dark red color with limited transparency. Sage, plum, raspberry, and blueberry notes on the nose. Palate has blueberry and raspberry with some background sage and pepper spice. I like how the red fruit elements have emerged and fully blanket the alcohol and structure. Held over a couple of days of consumption with stoppering and sitting in the cellar. Drink or hold.

After two hours of air it was nice, but after 4 hours, wow! Judging by previous scores, this wine has evolved into a beauty in the last couple of years. Goes to show that the life of a wine is often difficult to predict. This was super smooth and complex with fantastic depth and deep dark fruit. Full disclosure, I prefer Cabs and Pinots and not so much Syrahs. This was more reminiscent of a Cabernet than a Rhone thus, perhaps, my higher score. Maybe expectations of a particular style should be replaced with an expectation of a fantastic bottle of wine! The majority of the time that's what you get from the Dehlinger folks. Recommend drinking now with a minimum 3-4 hour decant.
