Yellow gold colour. Looks oxidized. Intriguing but highly oxidative nose of walnuts, syrup, and star fruit. Same elements on the palate, with a bitter finish. This is drinking more like an orange wine. Interesting as an aperitif but won't work with most food. This is 2 out of 2 heavily oxidized bottles of this for me. Disappointed. Not rated given the oxidation.

What a impressionable and shape shifting wine. Upon open I thought maybe this was a bit oxidized, but lo and behold it came around significantly. Big popcorn nose at first felt like this could've been chardonnay, but blows off to reveal notes of jasmine and honeysuckle, palate rounder. As it warms the wine gains sweetness and weight on the nose of lemon oil. After a bit it put on a riesling costume for a bit with some diesel. Finally stone fruit, rubber and melon.
What a multi-faceted journey. I suspect this bottle wasn't even the "top of the lot" but despite that, this chenin has so many different facets making it impressive in its own right

-- tasting note from Day 5. Bottle was kept in fridge after opening -- -- tasted non-blind --
NOSE: a bit honeyed (including on Day 1); medium+ expressiveness; hint of matchstick (even on Day 5); medium-light oak; smells aged, but far from dead.
BODY: light amber color; medium-light to medium bodied.
TASTE: high acidity, but it melds with beautiful aged Chenin flavors of orange oil, wool, and light sandalwood; light oak; seems appropriately advanced for its age, but I understand how others would say this is advancing too quickly --- I cannot make that call, myself, without having recently opened another bottle of the same that showed fresher/less advanced; *maybe* a *hint* of sherried character; 13.5% alc. is hidden; this was a recent auction purchase, so I can't speak on how it was stored over the years; I think this is phenomenal, and -- for my preferences -- is in the perfect spot right now. Gut impression score: 93 - 95.

First bottle was oxidized. Second bottle ripping like when I last tasted it 8 years ago. This is an extremely high ideal for what you want in legendary Chenin. Worthy of keeping a secret.
