Community Tasting Notes (2) Avg Score: 88.5 points

  • About 1.5 yrs ago I bought 2 bottles of this wine, reading in Coates' Cote d'Or a review scoring it 17.0 - 2005. I had one bottle almost exactly a year ago and the second shared amongst seven total people last night. It was only last night that it occurred to me that the score may have been for Domaine Leflaive and not O. Leflaive and thus not relevant. However, I thought the wine was excellent for such an old village wine.

Historical note from last year: Wine constantly evolved, showing a little flat and off then becoming very rich and butterscotchy.

Bottle last night: Showed similar signs of wave-length character change. Began a bit metallic and flat/off, but then ripened into warm butter/horse sweat and leather. Never reached the creamy butterscotchness of the previous year but still quite good nonetheless. Also consumed it much quicker than the previous bottle.

  • With K at dinner at La Perouse at the Intercontinental Hotel in Maui. Delicate light gold. Nice lean fruit nose. Wet stones. Lean and austere on the palate, but developed fully by the finish. Quite excellent. Steely. 5-10-16-7: 88/100.
