  • Apricot, peach, honey, mixed floral and a just touch of green vegetal freshness. Not particularly waxy in the palate - smooth, but not overpoweringly sweet or viscous. Acidity (m+) still prevalent and maintaining structure - balancing the sweetness (m+). Best reference point I have is a spatlese riesling without the minerality

  • "Baby are you okay? You've barely touched your Char-spookerie." (Chicago, IL): Served double blind. A very strange chenin; I had trouble guessing both the chenin and the botrytis part here, so I was all over the place. The floral element, which I latched onto, had me thinking this was Jurançon. There was also some odd melon notes. On the reveal, this maybe made a little more sense, but overall the chenin character seemed to have been overwhelmed here, and I didn't pick out a distinct botrytis flavour either (the wine is surprisingly pale for its 31 years and supposed botrytis influence).

  • Zoom tasting. Double blind. Waxy, pollen, nectar. A little peach or apricot. Not too sweet. Very floral and pollen. A bit bony. Sometimes I like it and sometimes it’s just ok. Eden says it is corked and I see where she is coming from. It's a little odd and feels clipped in a number of ways, but I don't get any of the cardboard and it doesn't emerge with time. But the wine does fill out somewhat. Waxy, pollen, nectar. A little peach or apricot. Not too sweet. Very floral and pollen. A bit bony. Sometimes I like it and sometimes it’s just ok. Nose -5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 4.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 15.5/20.

Day 2: Florals sweet honeysuckle and honey. A bit waxy with pollen. Dried fruit almost raisins apricots. Palate has some nice stuff honeysuckle wax and pollen. But this feels like it is missing the next gear. Floral and dried fruit and honey on the finish. Nose -5/6, Palate - 4.5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 15.5/20.

  • BeaujoLoire Blowout (St. Cecilia, Atlanta, GA): Essence of fresh caramelized quince. Understated and subtle beauty, the acid balances the sweetness so well that the wine doesn't show as that sweet. Great with a not-too-sweet panna cotta with strawberries, I wouldn't open it with a big, sweet exhuberant wine unless I poured this first and took a good bit of time exploring it first.
