Community Tasting Notes (8) Avg Score: 88 points

  • Perfect level, soaked but firm cork extracted without difficulty. Fully mature colour, red core; the nose is open and attractive, with notes of roses and undergrowth, vestiges of red berry fruit, a hint Corton warmth and some nutty evolution, nice depth; the palate is tannic but there is sufficient roundness and stuffing for balance, there is freshness in the acidity and brightness in the fruit to offset the more tertiary flavours, hint of coffee; the finish is slightly drying, but the presence of some fresh cranberries stops it from being too tea-like; good length. One of the better bottles from this case so far.

  • Perfect level. Quite tough and tannic, not (really) old or oxidised, but the fruit has mostly gone and what we're left with is a quite rusty and structured wine, in which characteristic Corton-warmth and sous-bois give some balance and comfort; some rosehip fruit on the finish. Broad shoulders but a distinct lack of finesse and charm.

  • Perfect level. A relatively good and fresh specimen. Light but fragrant nose with notes of tea and jasmin, vestiges of red berry fruit, nice warmth and a hint of nutty evolution; the palate is slender and quite tannic but not too drying, slightly oxidative flavours; adequate length.

  • Pristine bottle, but this is not reflected in the glass. Dry, tannic, cold tea. Austere and devoid of charm. (86). Has filled out somewhat on day two and displays a hint of creaminess and a better stuffing of fruit, but there is a lack of definition and the tannins remain tough and drying. (87).

  • Perfect level (<1cm). Much better than the two previous bottles, not as tough and with much more charm and fruit; very similar to the one tasted in June 2014. Who said that ullage doesn't matter very much with Burgundies?
