Fairly well saturated cork, but the wine itself appeared quite sound. Still a healthy dark red with a lightened rim. Robust and brawny, but perhaps a bit blocky and monolithic.

My first '77 port, and it is a beauty. This vintage seems to have earned a mixed reputation but this example from Smith Woodhouse is just lovely. Rich and a bit woodsy, with some pleasant spice notes to go with the core of brambly black fruit. Good balance in terms of sweetness (pleasant, not cloying) and alcohol (high, but not hot). This was just delicious and continued to improve over 4 days, so I think this has plenty of life ahead.

Noah Kitchen for Xiao-Li's birthday. Double decanted about 6 hours prior too serving. Good color, plenty of fruit, and I'd say this is in its prime drinking window but no hurry. A little spirity, but this seemed to lessen over time. Nice port!

Cork had disintegrated but just lovely. Last bottle. Great vintage; needs drinking soon I think.

Horizontal of 1977 Fonseca, Taylor, Smith Wodehouse, and Sandeman at 3rd weekend of encampment. Lightest of the lot and a hit with O'Connell. My #3.
