  • Upon opening this was showing dark, black and purple fruits and some ground/mushroom funk on the nose. Some cigar box came through soon after as the fruit started to brighten a bit and the ground taste started to show more mineral. After an hour of air it seemed to settle on dark red and tart black fruits and wet cement with a bit more funk, which to me was black cherry and blackberries. Medium bodied. Medium acidity. Lingering tannins leave a lingering reverie of your sip without being pushy about it.

This bottle impressed me. I haven't found many 10+ year old Napa cabs at my local shops, which is why I grabbed this to try out. I paid $80 for this bottle in 2023 and I feel like to get similar value I would have to buy a 2018 bottle and home age it. Worth every penny and a few more, but not too many.

Interesting (in a good way) experience throughout its growth the in carafe!

  • Underrated on CellarTracker, I assert. Aroma is less intense, but still plenty of dark cherry and cigar box. Really enjoyable, strong flavor of primarily dark red and some black fruit, with vanilla, clay pot, tobacco, and black pepper. Lingering fruit, pepper, and zest. Well integrated, good complexity and acidity, and plenty of length. A small amount of air improves it, but not a lot is needed: 15-30 minutes seems to suffice. Clearly in its prime.

  • Turned off by a prior bottle, enjoyed this one. Full-bodied but somewhat restrained intriguing fruit. Decent finish.

  • There's nothing particular that I don't like about the wine, but there's also nothing positive. No nose. Not really any fruit. Very smooth. No finish. In a blind test I'm not sure I could even identify this as a wine. Weird.

  • Good, but not perfect. Maybe 90 is a little high. The acidity and tannins were the problem, but still enjoyable with grilled beef or any heavy tasting meat.
