Crystalline and mineral. Just a touch of that Loire blood, beet and green pepper thing with a moderate bit of cherry fruit that could be a bit riper and more prominent. With this particular bottle, I don’t get anything more complex from the FdP. Ample acidity and dusty tannins. Probably has room to age, but whether it will reward it remains to be seen.

Served blind. This was really tough to pick blind as it showed no signature Loire notes of green herb or tobacco. Guesses ranged from Burg to Southern Rhone. Nose is a bit shy with earthy red fruit and some white pepper. In the mouth this is a lighter red with some herb and white pepper. Thinner on the mid-palate. Picks up intensity with air later in the evening. Solid though not distinctive to what I expect from Loire Cab Franc.

Lovely wine. Clear cab franc notes of white pepper, smoked paprika, game and dark berry fruit with an elegance and textural suaveness uncommon for a reedy old Loire CF. will give these significant time to mature, though it drinks well now

Very elegant and light on its feet, with lots of dark berried Cab Franc fruit, green herbal and leafy notes, and a faint whiff of bretty leathery notes on the nose. It's very easy to drink with bright acids and very fine grained tannin, but comes across a touch lean. It's a very pretty, easy drinking wine, but doesn't quite show the depth or complexity I'd expect from the FDP bottling.

A private dinner (Restaurant Choux, Amsterdam, NL): Supple, juicy, Pinot Noir like fruit, violets, hint of funk on the nose but attractive, ripe fruit, silky, forest floor flavours, slightly lactic, crushed red berries, very soft tannins; good length. Completely natural but still a finished product. Not necessarily a very typical Bourgeuil, but rather delicious and with some finesse.
