Drinking very well. Great balance! Nice sweet dark fruit and chocolate on the nose along with some leather and tobacco notes. On the palate, more dark fruit (currant, cassis, blueberry, plum), leather, mocha, and a lil coffee. Went well with a pasta in bechemel sauce.

56% Cabernet Sauvignon and 44% Merlot. The alluring nose shows cassis, mint, cocoa, vanilla and a hint of bay leaf. The spicy palate is cool and dark with a pure core of fruit that was initially rather sweet, almost too sweet, but as this opened up the sweet character receded as the wine gained more focus. There is a hint of espresso as well as tart notes of cranberry with dancing acidity that provides freshness. With more time the wine exhibits more notes of wood with spict cedar, vanilla and brown sugar, but this remains in balance. This is a wine of finesse and balance, very feminine and quite complex. The finish is medium in length with silky tannins and dusty, tooth-coating character. Very nice! http://www.gordonwines.com/1998_tradition.htm DAY 2: This wine did very poorly overnight losing all semblance of tannin and acid. Even with refrigeration, this just didn't show a lot of oomph.

Best to let it breath for an hour, but it opens up quite nicely.
