I was disappointed in this vintage of Peter's Colombia Old Vine Zin. Figs, cedar and forest on the nose. But weak, somewhat watery palette with virtually no pepper, something SOVZ is famous for. Decanted for 2 hours and pepper started to emerge, but not gang busters as in other vintages. Palette developed with some blackberries, and dark stone fruit. Finish was short and weak for my taste. Did not stand up to filet mignon well at all. Switched to a robust Napa cab for rest of dinner.

PnP, the nose on this is big, with plum, dark cherry, candied fig. The palate is slightly hot but not overwhelming with more potent dark fruits and a slight brambly note creeping in along with a cola aspect. This is a little flabby and could have used a little more acid to balance the high alcohol level but it is still enjoyable if you like this style of zin.
2nd note, 2/24 - I had about a glass left in the bottle and refrigerated it for four days until deciding to finish it. Lo had behold the slow ox time did wonders for this zin and mellowed out the fruit potency while bringing to the forefront the brambly flavors and added mocha to the mix, very enjoyable, a point higher than my first go around with it.

Zinfandel tasting - no formal notes taken. This was probably best balanced wine of the evening. Really appeared to bridge the gap between the CA fruit bombs and the Old World Primitivos and their herbaceousness/tar. Generous boysenberry aromas/palate but with better acidity and minerality than either the Ridge or the Turley. This was mine and others WOTN
