Purple in color. This is ageing just fine. The nose has a dusty quality reminiscent of an older Ridge (kind of a Bordeaux like quality as well). Also black cherries. On the palate, it drinks much younger. Plenty of black cherry fruit with a bit of a woody (but not oak) quality. Complex and showing like it will continue to age just fine. These vines are almost 100 years old and this Zin can age. Very different than it was on release.

This is still such a baby. This is a Zin that demands some time. An interesting juxtaposition drinking this and reading the Terry Thiese book. This is a big wine, and the alcohol is noticeable. I am not sure how well it would go with food, but it makes a great sit by the fire and read a book wine. It has wonderful depth (probably due to the 100 year old vines). Raspberry, bramble and some black licorice notes are still primary. Velvety texture. And certainly delicious. No hurry to drink these though.

Fruit is still there, but the acid needed to alance the wine is missing and it comes off cloying.

Incredible Zinfandel! Great fruit balanced by firm tannins. Just a pleasure to drink. A wine to savor with each sip.
