This is a really nice example of what happens with the approximate $20 point in Aussie Shiraz. This is kind of a purists Shiraz. It is not necessarily big and rich, though not lean either. It has deep purple almost black color. The nose is deeply earthy, flinty mulberry, plum and blackberry. The fruit and the palate is juicy, close to jammy, but somehow restrained and controlled dark fruit. Nice, Shiraz style cola and licorice influence with minerals and kitchen spice. Some sappy, charcoal, grainy flavors from some American oak. The finish is pure blueberry fruit with minerals, and just the right balancing acidity.
