  • Unique nose from the de Chaunac and Chelois grapes. Slightly acidic aroma. Tart on the palate with no tannins. De Chaunac is a French-American hybrid developed in 1860. Chelois is also a hybrid. The Lake Michigan Shore AVA receives breezes from Lake Michigan that moderate the micro-climate, not unlike the Bay of Biscay. The vineyard has sandy gravel loam soil. The label says this will age well, but with no tannins, I'm not sure. Drink now. $10.

  • A blend of De Chaunac and Chelios. My first experience of Chelios and my first good experience of De Chaunac. It's great to see Michigan wineries try new varietals, and this is an interesting combination to pull off. Dark and inky. Smoky aroma. Black fruit on the palate. The flavour is distinctive, because of the unusual grapes. $10, a good value.
