  • Blind Pinot's (The Kenwood): Dark yellow, showing its age with toffee, caramel, lemon wax. Candied on the nose, a lovely rich finish that ends with a bit of heat. This has aged very well.

  • Monthly Wine Group: Blind Pinots from Around the World (The Kenwood, Mpls, MN): Small taste. Deep gold color. Fun to try this. Nice nose, but the palate just has too much heat now. Hard for me to get past. Perhaps the fruit could handle this back in the day. But 15.1% at 15 years old did hold up.

  • Best American white wine I've had in a while, though the bottle age clearly has something to do with that. The weight of this wine really sets it apart, an amazingly viscous, bold experience that is apparent as soon as you see its dark yellow colour out of the bottle. I actually had to pace myself in between sips, the wine was so heavy (in a good way). Nice complexity of flavours, with serious savory characteristics here - like popcorn but complimented nicely with some brioche and light citrus. A lot of the other reviews cite the use of oak - definitely present here but fairly restrained in style in my opinion. A great combination of American oak and fruit with a somewhat Burgundian winemaking style, much like Kistler. I think there is something for everyone here and a well stored bottle will not leave anyone without an opinion.

  • I was certain I was going to dump this bottle due to its age, but glad I tasted it first. Remarkably still quite good. Rich golden color, buttery oak and citrus on the nose, and initial flavors of lemon and pineapple backed by solid acidity. Toasted carmel and vanilla notes with some minerality in mid-palate (wet stone) with persistent oakiness. Finishes long with a bit of citrusy lemon and a bit of lime and/or quince along with the toasted oak and carmel hints. I fully agree with Pekingunther - don't serve this too chilled - it will kill all the nuances.

  • At 11 years, this wine still seems to have plenty in the tank. Question is whether it will continue to improve with more time, or if it has peaked, in terms of flavour and integration. This is the 3rd bottle over 3 years, and it has improved quite significantly in that period, in that it has softened and shows a better integration of the fruit, the limited tannins that were evident and the butter/richness as a result of its time in oak. 3 years ago it was all forward flavours, big and punchy n the front with an almost overpowering richness. So much so you missed the back palette. This has subdued and when at the right temperature, is quite a soft wine now. I'd suggest drinking it out of the cave at 11-12 degrees. No colder, and keep it around that. For those who enjoy more astringent wines with a greater sense of terrior - this is not for you (I am safe as I enjoy both)... put it this way, if you had it blind and anyone picked old world, you could send themhome with thier toys. It doesn't hide the fact it is big bold new world with plenty of fruit, oak and alcohol (15.1%)... 2/3 of a glass for drivers :-)
