A private dinner (Restaurant Vermeer *, Amsterdam, NL): Difficult. Not the wine as such, but of the three (!) bottles opened tonight by the very affable sommelier, the first two had a clear acrolein taint and the third one, although much better, was slightly affected too. We enjoyed it still, but I will refrain from giving it a score.

Vines between 16 and 100 years old. Mencia 90%, Brancellao, Mouratón, Souson and Garnacha. Incredible how light, yet how rich the wine is at the same time. Like drinking a bodyless essence of sweet and spicy blue and red fruits and salty minerality. Really long finish, clean, soft, creamy and yet still grippy tannins. Very food friendly, versatile and great even for hot days. Great!

Violets on the nose. Darker fruits that across very fresh with loads of minerality. Hint of roast meat on the back end of the palate. Really like this wine.

This is a lovely wine that reminds me of cru Beaujolais. It offers delicious flavors of red-fruit candy along with hints of spice and mild gaminess. Tannins are rather strong on the finish, adding a sense of seriousness to what is otherwise a playful wine. This is good stuff that might get even better with a few years of aging.

Lush and layered, drinks like an even more expensive wine. Hints of currant and dark berries on the nose, with nice earthy leathery notes on the finish.
