A little angular in terms of fruit, this wine nevertheless developed into a very drinkable drop, with peppery black fruit and some wood, developing good weight and mouthfeel. It is important to give it 1-2 hours in the decanter. At its price, better (because of the ageing) than some recent wines in a more expensive bracket. So 90-91 points (and that is judged against certain European wines that I have drunk recently).

{screwcap, 14%} Macerated jam/raspberry fruit aromas and flavours, with a touch of liquorice. Has an auora of high-yield about it. Heavily pressed fruit, minimal tannins, vague acid. Medium-bodied, 'almost' sweet, but without the depth or quality of fruit. Modern commercial style; a long way from the label's heritage a quarter-century ago. Quaff.

Colour is deep purple with a light violet hue; Quite aromatic on the nose, spices with some menthol; fleshy dark fruits on the palate, very basic, no real secondary flavours; medium bodied with low acidity; finish is short. A basic wine, fine for everyday drinking.

this wine has been dialed back from versions 10 yrs ago. I like both styles but miss the oodles of succulent fruit from the earlier style. This vintage is fresher, lighter with lower alcohol at 14.0 declared. I would guess that the grapes for this wine, like many from Australia in the last 5 yrs., have been picked earlier. This wine is still tasty and definitely not austere.
