Nose: Clean nose with a Medium- Intensity. This wine is developing.
Quite restrained on the nose with slightly dried dark cherries the only fruit left. Very earthy and plenty of oak; lightly toasted oak and vanilla although this does tend to unfortunately dominate.
Palate: Dry Medium- tannins High acidity Medium+ alcohol Medium intensity Medium + body Medium finish
A step up on the palate with sour cherry, blackberries and pepper spice combining nicely, culminating in a tart, slightly bitter finish. Hugely acidic and definitely a wine to pair with food. Simple, slightly clumsy but undeniably refreshing.
Very good quality Barbera from Barbera D'Alba, Piemonte. This will not get any better so drink up and at 15 euros a bottle, below average QPR.

Returning to this wine a year later, I'm pleasantly surprised. It still seriously lacks fruit, depth of flavour and concentration. But there is some nice typicity: a soft, warming melange of briary, dried red fruits, leather, mushrooms, forest-floor undergrowth and all things autumnal.

Clear pale ruby color. The nose is clean, medium intensity, ripe red cherry, ripe strawberry, milk oak notes, hints of roasted almond, walnut and nutmeg. The wine is dry, medium body and intensity, medium alcohol (14%) but biting a bit, tannins are medium, acidity is medium, red cherry again, green notes, a bit of olive, lacking depth, medium finish. Good quality, drinking now, medium price

Inky dark stone fruit with a hint of black licorice. Acidity pairs with wonderfully with tomato sauce based dishes.
