Community Tasting Notes (5) Avg Score: 88.8 points

  • Tasted blind, added as a pirate in a large Bordeaux 2010 10 years on tasting (served in an all blind flight along some lower-tier satellite appellation wines). This is supposed to do for the wines from the Swiss Valais region what Sassicaia did for Tuscany – a category definer to put it on the fine wine world map. I found it quite uninspiring and slightly overdone. The average of 5 scores was 88.8 points and in this tasting that meant the 61st place (out of 64 wines).

TN: Creamy texture, dark and red fruit, oaky notes (but not the luxurious ones), rather simple and with too much extraction. Rather short.

Decanting: I would give it a long decant.

  • Grand Bordeaux 2010 ten years on tasting; 6/21/2020-6/22/2020 (Fribourg): Big Bordeaux 2010 2-day horizontal hosted by a private collector. My 3 main takeaways from the vintage were 1) more frequent perception of heat, 2) a slightly stronger left bank and a less consistent right bank, 3) while in general it is still too early to pop the 2010s, wine selection is key as some appear to be in decline already, especially on the right bank. The top wines were Mouton (99), Margaux (98) and VCC (98). The biggest positive surprise was Clos Manou (95). Biggest disappointment was Pape Clement (86). More details and complete tasting overview included in the tasting story.

    Tasting note:
An Easter egg planted in this horizontal. Light, red fruit profile followed by a very fruit forward palate that was not only simple, but really bad with way too much tannin and acidity and everything just entirely at the wrong place.

  • Blend of; Cornalin, Humagne Rouge, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Diolinoir, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
Deep, inky ruby with garnet highlights. Pronounced aromas of; balsamic vinegar, vanilla and mint with a core of blackberry, black currant and juniper. Rich and layered on the palate, full and densely structured. Will certainly age well and for the better.

  • DWCC Iconic Swiss Varietals with Mr. Paolo Basso (Montreux, Switzerland): A blend of Cornalin, Humagne Rouge, Cab Sauv, Syrah, Diolinoir, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. To me this is a bit raisined. There is a nice slate/mineral aspect, but it is awfully full, intense and powerful.

  • Deep dark black ruby. Chocolate, dark berry fruit, and lime on the nose.
Abundant, still slightly astringent tannins will still benefit from ageing and currently engage the dark fruit, floral components and ivy. The finish is medium long.
