Age may be catching up with this wine, what with it showing more burgundy than purple in color. Yet it’s very much alive with cola, black cherry, cranberry, black olives, cloves and teaberry, and vanilla all arranged on the nose and palate, each with distinct voices. Since we pulled this as a control to test against the underperforming 2012, we put the top back on and left it to sit on the counter so we could enjoy the rest the next night. Twenty-four hours later, the wine from edge to core, had taken on more brown in the red hue. The tannins are fully resolved and by the second night absolutely soft. The fruit remains strong. This is decidedly better than the 2012. Not a lot of sediment. 14.3% alc. Over two nights with Stilton, Petit Basque and finnocchiona on crusty bread the first night and just by itself the next. 10.20&21.23. Recommended.

The color of this wine lacked the usual “Loring purple”; this was more of a red brick color suggesting age is catching up with this wine. But the nose was alive with cola from the very first pour of the wine. Cola dominated the nose initially, but with time, the other usual elements of clove, cranberry, and black cherries chime in with clear voices. A splash of vanilla joins the chorus on the finish. The tannins are fully resolved. Drink over the next 2 to 3 years. Not a lot of sediment. 14.3% alc. With roasted salmon under olive tapenade. 12.15.22. Recommended.

Drinking perfectly right now. Peppery cranberry, pomegranate fruit really shines. Depth and intensity to go with fresh acidity and seamless tannin.
