Community Tasting Notes (4) Median Score: 90 points

  • Previous note from 2015 is spot on. Solid 92. I have learned over the years that fruit from Kenefick just takes time to develop. Still maintaining acidity, the floral nose of this wine is rather present today along with mature red fruits. Entry of this wine is medium+ bodied with chalky black cherry, rhubarb, and a hint of baking chocolate. Violets creep up into the middle and finish. This wine is likely at peak, although it wouldn't surprise me if it has a few more years before starting thw descent.

  • Green pepper on the nose. Spice and black cherries. Good drinking wine. May last another year.

  • So the previous rater rates this wine 78 but says he "likes the wine"....and gives no detail about it. SO OK. Here's some real detail on the real (NR) rating. This wine is not particularly ready to show to the party yet. Yes, this is a 2011 that I actually DO FEEL needs more time in the bottle. It was uncorked to a 2-3 mm bleed all the way around and sediment and tartrate on the cork. The wine is black cherry and a little cranberry on the nose. A little sweet. Young nose. The wine poured a medium colored dark red with a hint of violet. The entry is soft, delicate medium to full bodied, with black cherry, cumin, a little brambly. The middle is a little deeper, but does keep more of a black cherry backbone with some rhubarb. Finishes with black pepper spice and cedar tannin. This wine is young, and could stand another 2-3 years in the bottle. Thankfully I didn't bonk and bought a few of these. I don't think this one will last THAT long, but I'd say it's safe to keep this one through 2020....although the right drinking year is probably next year. Didn't get as much bramble, mocha, fig, or earth as I expected, and this is probably because it's locked up a bit. I'd rate this particular experience an 89/90, probably 91/92 at its height around 2017.
