Tasted double-blind. Italian bouquet of dark berries, sweet oak, pipe tobacco, and bramble, but from where exactly? First thought was BdM, then became convinced that Cabernet Sauvignon in unique terroir was prominent, but could not quite get to Tuscany because of a unique terroir element that put my mind to the Piedmont. As the wine breathed, Nebbiolo-like tannins came out to play and I began to think this might have been a Cabernet Sauvignon - Nebbiolo blend. I do not recall my final guess but it was wrong. This is a fascinating wine, as it suggests that some Barolo - Barbaresco elements, which I have thought to be variety and oak imparted, may actually be terroir imparted. 92-93.

Piedmont -- Ceretto Winery Visit: Syrah and merlot aromatics on the nose but tastes more cab-like.
