  • Surprisingly, this wine held up very well. Dark purple red with minimal browning. Cassis and blackberry aromas. Smooth and rich, residual tannins, good acid. Rocking!

  • Christmas (and birthday) party (Our house): From magnum - only had a quick taste but very enjoyable. Bottle did not last long.

  • The wine is a fairly deep ruby red color, with no signs of it being eleven years old. The very elegant and powerful nose has cassis, dried herbs, tobacco, dusty minerals, melted licorice, warm baking spices, violets, black cherries, and lesser notes of cedar, vanilla, and earthiness. This has medium body with fairly solid, ripe tannins and very nice acidity. The palate is loaded with rich, juicy berries, dried herbs, and just the right amount of spicy oak. The very flavorful finish is very long, seeming to linger forever. The wine is perfectly balanced and in a wonderful place. It is velvety with no rough edges or out of place or excessive elements.

  • When first opened, it was astringent and over-Oaked. I came back to it 6 hours later, and what a change. The wine had really smoothed out, the Oak took a back seat to black cherries and cassis. Still noticeable Oak but with sweet vanilla notes instead of astringent resin. This wine is still a quite young. Looking forward to trying it again in a few years.

  • Popped and poured into Reidel Sommelier Bordeaux Grand Cru glasses. I have been storing this in a passive cellar since it was released and based on the look of the cork and the color and smell of the juice, I think our cellar conditions are ideal for holding wines for the long-term. First impression: this is still showing signs of youth. Color gives no indication whatsoever that this is a decade old and it's endowed with a powerful perfume. The first sip confirms my opinion: this is clearly outstanding. Powerful and concentrated with fantastic structure. I am utterly smitten. Over the next several hours, Holly and I were treated to plums, tobacco and mulberries on the nose. Near-ripe plums, mulberries and something that reminds me a bit of a proper shot of espresso (with it's bright, fruit-like acidity) on the palate. I pushed the cork back into the top and saved a glass to see if there would be any further development and to be honest, there wasn't any improvement. I think this is really hitting it's apex right now and will probably hold there for another couple years without too much trouble. Wish I had another bottle.
