  • San Antonio Wine Geeks - Double Blind Cali Cabs (Home of Steve T.): Served double blind. Came across as quite youthful and vibrant. Showing a lot of oak along with cassis and currants, but the fruit is nice underneath. There is substantial tannin, slightly chewy and dry on a medium finish with vanilla and a slight bitterness. After finding out this was another one of T’s Texas wines I restated, but confirmed my impressions. I wish there was less oak, but the fruit is nice. Who knew a Texas wine would last this long and still have life ahead of it? 90-91

  • MDriver traded me this wine for a LaPierre Beaujolais. I visited this winery in 2000 and thought it was among the best Texas wineries at the time. Interestingly, before the bottles were unveiled, I had asked the guest of honor, Wineismylife, what the best Texas wine he ever had was and he named this exact bottle. Dark chocolatey nose. I thought it was too fruity and slighty grapey tasting. The acidity seemed out of balance also but overall it was a good to very good wine. I liked it the least of anyone at the blind tasting. 86.

  • Opened 1-½ hours without decanting before serving in Spiegelau Bordeaux style glasses. Dusty violet color in the glass. Nose of currant, raspberry, licorice and cedar. Flavors of black cherry and raspberry. Soft tannins over a fairly balanced frame except for the alcohol that left the balance lacking a bit. 87 points. Drink now.
