  • 1 hr decanter. Dark ruby, long legs, sweet ripe tangerine , light pepper/leather, ripe raspberry. Dry side, light to medium body, highly acidic , medium tannins, refreshing raspberries. Later on, more graphite, soot fragrance came out. Recommend drinking a few years later.

  • Burg Grand Cru night at Bishan. Tasted blind. Drank in Grassl Cru.
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose medium intensity, with lots of reductive elements and rubber, then aromas of dark red cherries, black cherries, baking spices, dark spice, smoked meat. Developing.
On the palate, dry, juicy high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), medium+ tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of smokey rubber, smoked meat, black earth, baking spices, dark red cherries, black cherries. Long finish.
Good quality. Just too young and still very reductive. Underlying substance is good though. I was guessing 2013 or 2014. At least 6-7 more years needed.

  • Domaine Drouhin-Laroze visit in June 2014: Deep, dark colour. Earthy on bouquet, very dark fruited, with some spice. Almost notes of Barolo tar, smokey and charred. In the mouth, very sappy with dark fruits and earth on the front palate and iron and rocks on the back palate, with very big tannins. Some charry and smokey flavours. This is a huge wine: solid core of wine with stone, iron and rock. This is what I expected of the Bonnes Mares rather than the Vougeot. It seemed like a 20-30+ year wine.
