Popped and poured. Dark purple colour. Lovely nose with hints of dark plums, ripe strawberries, spices and a touch of wood – remarkably primary for a wine with over ten years on its back. Full bodied and fairly rich, but has structure in abundance. While very enjoyable today, it has yet to develop the leathery, mushroomy and forest-floory aromas I have come to associate with an aged Taurasi. Having said that, this wine is built for the long haul and will probably evolve favourably over the next six to eight years (91-93 points).

Costiera Amalfitana; 5/16/2016-5/25/2016: Soft, immediately approachable, seems to be right at peak. Medium-bodied with cool, juicy dark plum and mixed berry fruit highlighted by tar and slightly medicinal edges, subtle mineral character near the finish, tannins in the background, manages to finish with a sweet red fruit note. Drink now-2018
