2012 Cotes du Rhone (Weygandt Wines - Washington, D.C.): Love the nose here, rocky and smoky with cracked pepper on top of the blackberry fruit. A full wine with great power, yet it’s clean and yummy at the same time. Love the soil, granite, rocks and sweet herbs with the juicy, silky mixed berry fruit. One for 3-4 years to let these it smooth down and gain even more complexity.

The nose was earthy yet sweet with animal musk, baked plum, ripe blackberry, blue floral tones, and saline-minerals. On the palate, velvety smooth textures turned juicy and fresh, showing ripe blueberry, violet candies, bitter bakers chocolate and vibrant minerality. A slightly short blackberry finish was forgivable on this extremely likable Cairanne.
