  • We recieved this bottle as a gift with a warning that it might no longer be good. An indeed the lower part of the cork was brittle, partially soaked and impossible to get out cleanly. Also for this reason we decanted the wine, which probably helped.

Both in the nose and on the palate there was still a surprising amount of fruit, reminiscent of a younger wine. Also still a lot of tannins, now rather smooth, but a hint of astringency left. The overall impression was powerful, but smooth and well-rounded, the wine went down very nicely with our dinner. It was surely some years its prime, with some notes of being an 'old' wine, but this was still just a mild shade on a quite rich palette of aromatic impressions. In summary, we clearly enjoyed the experience.

  • The wine is clear and bright with a deep garnet colour.

The nose is fully developed, showing medium intensity aromas of bottle development (green olives), reduction (cauliflower, garlic) and hints of oak (cedar) and volatile acidity (nail varnish remover).

The wine is dry in the mouth with a medium(-) acidity. It has medium fine-grained tannins and a medium(+) alcohol. It has a medium(+) body and medium(+) intensity flavours of fruit development (dry cherries), bottle development (green olives), reduction (cauliflower, garlic) and hints of oak (cedar) and volatile acidity (nail varnish remover). The finish is medium(+).

The wine is past its best, so I am not going to asses its quality as it would be unfair.
