Dark ruby red. Pop and poured. On the nose, sweet red berries and rich lush fruit. Cotton candy and oak is well integrated. On the palette, a smooth and well made Napa Cab. Oak is completely integrated with little tannins left. Lots of delicious bold red rich fruits and milk chocolate that completely coat your mouth. Medium finish. Very well made like every past bottle I’ve had. I remember trying this bottle at their vineyard in Oakville in 2012, at the time too young. Drink up now as I think its just over its peak and beginning its decline.
My only criticism is their awful corks they use. Maybe it’s not for long time aging but my past 3 bottles of the 2005 and 2009 vintages have all resulted in broken corks. Dead center cork breakage while carefully opening. Frustrating for such a good wine. Anyways this is my last bottle of Turnbull and overall it’s really good.
Been drinking Turnbull since the early 80’s. It has always been one of my reliable favorite Napa Valley cabs. This one is no exception. After breathing in the bottle for 18 hours it was good from start to finish. 12 years old and still vibrant and smooth as a baby’s butt. Beautifully integrated tannins and good to the last drop! Beware, there was some serious sediment in this vintage, but with careful pouring it wasn’t a problem. Enjoy it if you’ve still got it!
