My last of a 6-pack. 11th day of "Circuit Breaker" (or lock-down) due to Covid-19, and my 1st btl of wine since... Rather apt. that we still had it in a "group", 'lol, "virtually" though, thr' Zoom... :(
Anyway, I felt that this has gotten somewhat less interesting since I last had it in '18. Yes, this still had the florals (violets), lift, purity, freshness, and red-fruits, plus the velvety texture on the palate... but somehow, the spice element seems to be (over)protruding, and it was still the case after 2-hrs in the decanter (Voss btl). I doubt I'll get to see how this evolves further (unless someone else pops a btl down the road), but hey, time to move on to another vintage of the Etelois...

This was more or less the "lesser" (village) wine amongst the wines we had (a '14 Chartron Chevalier Montrachet & Ganevat Les Grands Teppes, '00 Figeac, '06 La Fleur Petrus & a Rodez Ambonnay champagne), but boy, it was by consensus the favourite amongst all... "Exploded" in the glass, yielding scents of roses, sandalwood/incense. Fruit intensity (with elegance) and savoriness on the palate held up well against the rest too. Once again, punching above its weight... Nice!

This, on the other hand, was in a much better place than the Rousseau CdlR. Floral nose with sandalwood spice wafted out of the glass without much coaxing. Where(as) I was kinda disappointed with the ‘13 & ‘14 Duroché Clos des Beze, this Etelois was definitely punching over its weight, especially on the palate where it more than held its own with the fruit intensity, silkiness, mouthfeel when compared with other distinguished wines like the ‘76/‘93 Mouton & the ‘88 Margaux... Great value!

Such pretty and pure nose of violets & red-blue berries, with spice after some time in the glass. Palate was no different - sappy, purity & elegance at first, with the Gevrey earthiness and structure slowly emerging after some time. Over-performing village wine!
