Ruby with an obvious helping of purple. Very surprising depth of colour for a wine of this age. Medium+ depth and still shining brightly. Bricking towards the edges.
Medium intensity on the nose with obvious signs of development. At first it was only tertiary characteristics but after a half hour the fruit showed itself. Cassis, cola, charcoal, cooked rhubarb.
Medium+ acid, medium+ tannin, medium alcohol, extremely complex with an almost limitless finish. Cocoa, not quite dried tomatoes, purple plum, coffee and a shocking grapey quality. Very refreshing and energetic for a wine this old.
Each component was extremely well integrated. It showed the vintage honestly. Every once in a while you get lucky with old bottles. A very noble wine. (recorked and topped up with current vintage at the winery just over a decade ago)
