  • Dark color with beautifully floral bouquet. Silky smooth mouthfeel with lovely fruit and spices. Nice long finish.

  • This was a bit tight and rugged on night one. Better on night two as the structure was more integrated, the fruit picked up some plushness and more spice/herb notes emerged. Quite classic when it did open up and showed a good balance of fruit, spice and SlB rusticity.

  • [Tasted Double Blind] this pours light ruby in the glass with a watery rim and perhaps the faintest hint of bricking at the rim. The nose is expressive showing tremendous primary and secondary notes with no tertiary development yet. Aromas are of animal fur, fresh mushroom, peonies, plum, dark cherry, cracked spice brown toasted spices, green olive, and just a touch of green plant leaf. The palate is still fairly youthfully structured with medium tannin and medium acid. A tangy purple licorice note shows up on the finish as things turn savoury and back to animal fur. My first reaction on the nose was to consider a southern Rhone in a style I really enjoy, as the spice and olive element matched, but the palate really led this to burgundy. Alcohol felt in the 12% or 13% range and not what you’d expect from a southern Rhone, so I landed in burgundy. Vintages I had in mind were 2008, 2011 or 2013, with a higher and elegant profile and a light herbaceous greenness. Upon reveal I was pleasantly surprised as this is a producer I’ve been somewhat down on despite having this wine and others from this producer in my own cellar, but I found this was quite enjoyable and starting to show true complexity and less reductive than I’ve found from other bottles from the producer. Very nice stuff.

  • A String of Successful Pinot Noirs!; 5/3/2022-9/7/2022 (NW DeeCee): Showing really beautifully now with good intensity and length and depth. Loads of damp forest and mushroom on the nose. Layers of dark red fruit and savory elements, structured but open, and persistent.

Amongst three very good wines on the table, this was fully consumed before we returned to the others! Most of the burgundy 2013s I have had over the last couple years have shown quite nicely.

  • Very solid for the vintage. Middleweight and well-balanced. Drinking now. Just the ticket with pizza.
