  • Perfect fill and perfect cork (firm, no seepage at all, purple disc on the bottom). This is in a very good place. Savory, some spice, earthy, very nicely balanced, tannins pretty much fully integrated. Nice, silky texture. Very good. No rush for anyone who has this, but a fine wine to drink now. I should also note that I decanted this off the sediment (there was a moderate amount) and started on it after about an hour. The first taste upon opening was fairly austere, so the hour of breathing helped.

  • Nice wine. My bottle was in pristine condition. Very youthful deep ruby red color and clear (non cloudy) not showing it's nearly 15 years of age. Very nice floral nose (I love the smell swirling in my glass). Can still use 2-5 more years to develop some more secondary flavors and greater complexity but it is starting to drink well now and the window will remain open for quite a few years to come.

After decanting for several hours the flavors are very well balanced and I can detect acid and light tannins on the finish. Not heavy but rather pure and refined stylistically. Very elegant. I am really enjoying sipping this Gravains wine as I write. This tasted toward red fruits (cherry) of the spectrum and the balancing acids really preserves it's sense of place and flavor profile of this wine. Very nice and recommended+++++

Note: This wine tasted best on Day 1. On the 2nd day it lost some of the purity and smooth refinement. Still good but a point or two lower on day 2.

  • Very interesting wine - strong nose of medicinal herbs as the last poster noted, with tonnes of meat and very little fruit. The palate reflects the nose, but you get deep dark brambly fruit. With air it begins to change albeit slowly. We came back to it 3 days later, and it was absolutely fabulous, with dark fruits and earth coming to the nose and the texture became very velvety with an excellent concentration. Good stuff!

  • Opens with a lot of earth, bark, medicinal herbs, very little fruit.
With air it fleshes up just a tiny bit.
Best for those where Fruit is optional.
Structure wise this seems about ready to drink.

  • A lovely 1er SLB with that lovely mixture of primary red fruits and some forestry, mushroomy high notes that adds complexity to this wine. Stll really quite young with no bricking. Has some lovely minerally inflections on both the nose and palate and this wine has quite a bit more finesse and elegance than the far more earthy Narbantons of Pavelot. The tannins are only just present but are ripe and give some nice structure to the wine. In all a lovely SLB which still has a good 5 years in it

Burghound

Burgundy-Report

(Pavelot Jean-Marc et Hugues Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Gravains) Deep colour, the core is ruby but the rim looks very young. Depth on the nose too, red and black fruit - neither dominates. Real concentration with an intensity thats exacerbated by the acidity. No rough edges, the tannins are well to the background. Really excellent potential for this wine.
