2010 Terralsole Vigna Pian Bossolino Brunello di Montalcino was assertive and complex. The developing Brunello was clear and medium garnet in colour with traces of fine sediments. With three hours of in-bottle aeration, the wine evolved into an absolute beast. Pronounced aromas of dried blackberry, juniper and thyme herbs were accompanied by notes of balsamic, truffle chocolate, leather and raw meat.
On the palate, it was dry, intense and full-bodied. Spices on the attack progressed to high levels of integrated acidity and sinewy tannin. Flavours dried red cherry, bramble and grilled mushroom were followed by baking spices, mocha and tobacco leaf in a long, robust finish. The 14.5% alcohol was consistent with its richness and abundance of spices. The empty bottle weighed 583 grams. It is always a pleasurable experience to taste a Brunello in its early drinking window, and appreciate its evolution over the evening.
Terralsole ws established in 1996 by Mario Bollag and his wife Athena Tergis. Vigna Pian Bossolino represents a higher-elevation, single-vineyard cru. The Sangiovese vines are cultivated on a gentle, southeastern-facing slope at 370 meters above sea level. The high altitude provides ventilation and a cooler weather for prolonged growing seasons. These attributes are reflected in the spices and pronounced aromatics in the wine.

A wonderful hi altitude, single vineyard Brunello. This is what BdM should taste like! Dried cherries, dried Italian herbs, saddle leather, tobacco.
