Community Tasting Notes (3) Avg Score: 92 points

  • Over dinner with my father-in-law. Filling-level bottom neck, cork soaked but intact. Medium to dark garnet color. Dried red fruit, red cherry, earthy notes, light coffee, light chocolate, and spices, with good acidity, partly resolved tannin, and very good length. Very earthy. Good structure and concentration. Benefits from aeration, and becomes smoothly textured and very harmonious after a few minutes in the decanter. Should continue to drink at this level for a number of years.

  • Decanting this wine was a big mistake. Absolutely explosive, multi-layered, perfumed, and nuanced immediately upon opening, but after just half an hour in the decanter, the attractive aromatics had disappeared, leaving a very nice, if slightly monolithically structured, 27-year-old traditionally styled Brunello. (NB: Frescobaldi's purchase of the property was in 1989). 95 pts initially, more like 91-92 after decanting. Drink now.
