  • The nose had nice dark fruits with some earth and only a little bit of barnyard that blew off fairly quickly. The palate was consistent with the nose, and had very nice concentration of the dark fruit. Tasted this next to a 2002 Freemark Abbey Sangio, and the Kuleto was the clear favorite of the group.

  • Light garnet color. This bottle changed dramatically with only about 30 minutes of air. Initially, the nose was leathery with currants and some heat. With more time, the nose evolved to become earthy with some mushroom and a little barnyard. The heat completely blew off. The flavors also transitioned from plum and cherry at first to more of a currant and cranberry profile. Even the tannins that were extremely mouth drying at first softened up after only 30 minutes and the wine became a really nice, juicy, fruity wine. It was a lot of fun to watch this wine develop. Who knows where it could have gone if we could have taken more time to finish the bottle...
