  • An impressive ringer from Chianti for a top notch Loire Sauvignon Blanc. Knife edged acidity, lemon backbone, utterly refreshing, dry, crisp, mouth cleansing, and concentrated, with a near endless finish.

  • Sauvignon Blanc aromas, which means blackcurrant leaves, herbs, nettle etc, and sometimes, like here, cat pee. Fresh and fruity in the mouth. Plenty of acidity and actually quite delicate (despite the cat pee).

  • PnP from wine fridge at 15C. Light silvery yellow colour. Grass hay gooseberry and green pepper on the nose. Lime pith gooseberry and grass on the palate. Definitely on the green scale for SB but not harsh. I liked the 2011 better.

  • This wine is a defiant counterexample to the generalization that the greatest Sauvignon Blancs from Italy come from the Alpine appellations of northern Italy. But here from Chianti is a superb one. One might reasonably expect that only the cool northern areas could achieve the zingy acidity that is a trademark of fine Sauvignon Blanc, but this Sauvignon Blanc is every bit as bright, cleansing, and refreshing. Also, warm regions that let red wines fully ripen would be expected to not be conducive to capturing the delicate floral and fruit aromas that mark superb Sauvignon Blanc from cooler climates. Yet this wine is exquisitely and complexly perfumed with citrus, gooseberry, fresh cut meadow grass, and flowers. Nor is the mouth entry softly ripe instead of being lively and energetic. Finally, this Tuscan Sauvignon has a lush and rich mouth feel rather than leaner taste of cool climate Sauvignon. Overall, a distinctively and surprisingly excellent Sauvignon Blanc from a place much more famous for its red wines.
