Up against a 2016 Vincent Bjorsen Vineyard with duck confit. Two very different wines. Same score but quite different. Burgundy always wins Pinot Noir for me. Old World vs New World. New World Pinot that I love will never surpass Burgundy. Never.

I never decant Bugundies regardless of age as I like to see them develop over the sitting. Poured quarter glasses. Tried a sip with my friend and there were some volatiles so we let it rest 15 minutes. Dark color. Next sip was a very full mouth of fruit with lots of structure. Compared to Villages Burgs for sure this is a major step up in concentration, flavor layers and Wow factor. This is for sure the best 2013 Burgundy I have tasted and had a lot of freshness that many 13’s don’t have. A lot of the 13’s I’ve had are dry a bit austere and devoid of fresh fruit notes. This wine was really excellent. For sure a bit more masculine than Chambolle Musigny we usually drink but in a good way. This wine still feels very young to me as there was still a bit of tightness to it. I think it will open up much more with more bottle age but really excellent right now. I’d probably decant this for 20-30 minutes and then pour it back into the bottle.

100% Pinot Noir. Nice bright garnet hue. Still young with a lot of growth potential. Nicely balanced and structures. Tart (sour cherry, cranberry) but nicely so-- great with lamb. Easy to drink. I'm looking forward to having this over time.
