Opened by Mark. Syrah from 30-50 year old vines. The grapes are not destemmed and the wines are not filtered. Typical Southern Rhône profile. A little bricking around the edges. Notes of garrigue, minerals, olive and meatiness. Solid tannins. 90-91 points

At first very closed. Tight and tannic. With time it opens with aroma of blackberry and thyme. Medium body, rich and tannic. Still showing red fruit flavors, cherry skin, hint of unsweetened chocolate. After an hour the nose and taste sweeten to a concentrated raspberry/blackberry jam. Wine shop recommends another 10 years.

Finishing up the remnants of the bottle opened two days prior. Hasn't changed very much- tapenade, olive and dark fruit notes. The palate is dominated by olive and red fruit tones. Good, but this doesn't say Côte-Rôtie to me.

4th Saturday Group: Global Cabernet Sauvignon (Our house): Opens with a dominant tapenade note, with dark fruit underneath. Peppery dark fruit on the palate with a medium+ finish. I like this, but it doesn't taste like Cote Rotie to me; perhaps age will bring out some bacon fat and white pepper?
