This checks all boxes for what I am looking for in a US Bdx-blend. Still youthful with a watery purple rim in the glass. On the nose, the wine gives me predominantly notes of bramberry, herbs/garrique with a touch of eucalyptus and white peppercorn. On the palate, I get sloe/plum, lozenges, pine & polished mahogany, tobacco (pipe/chewing?) and sweet liqorice. Finishing with green pepper/tulip notes with a long refreshing acidity.
The alcohol is noticeable but not it a bad way. This wine screams Power Dining..
Served with a surf'n'turf-ish dish of grilled sirloin, a lobster choron sauce and confit potatos and it was a great match!
No rush to open but it drinks wonderfully right now.
Glass: Veloce Syrah

Dark purple colored, medium full bodied, tightly wound, structured black cherry and black plum fruits open with a layer of cinnamon spice with notes of black tea, earthy tobacco and hints of caramel on the lingering tannin finish. https://unwindwine.blogspot.com/2022/10/mark-ryan-long-haul-red-mountain-red.html

Dried flowers, black cherry, peppery herbs and a touch of leather on the nose. Deep and dark in the glass, it delivers muted dark fruit and medium tannin. I was a bit caught off guard by the heat, and upon checking the label surprised to see 14.9% ABV for a Bordeaux blend (likely north of 15 in reality). That probably overwhelmed this wine a bit, masking what might have been a 92+ point effort.
