  • A biodynamic single-vineyard Petite Arvine from the Les Claives vineyard located in Fully, Valais. Fermented slowly with indigenous yeasts (pied de cuve) in stainless steel over a period of one year. 25% of the wine has undergone malolactic fermentation. 14% alcohol, 6 g/l residual sugar.

Pale yellow-green color. Ripe, somewhat concentrated and slightly sweet-toned nose with attractive aromas of juicy golden apples, some honeydew melon, a little bit of waxiness, light cooling notes of kiwi and a hint of wizened apricot. The wine is full-bodied, oily and ridiculously concentrated on the palate with bold, primary and still wonderfully transparent flavors of honey, very ripe golden apples and even apple jam, some cantaloupe, a little bit of nectarine, light tangerine marmalade tones, a hint of stony minerality and a touch of caramelized tropical fruit. Despite its concentration, the wine really doesn't feel weighty at all, but instead remarkably light on its feet. The remarkably high acidity lends impressive intensity and great sense of structure to the wine. The finish is very ripe, oily and juicy with concentrated flavors of juicy white peach, some cantaloupe, a little bit of tangerine and orange marmalade, a hint of stony minerality and a touch of chalky mineral bitterness.

An outstanding and remarkably exceptional effort for a white wine alone, but even more so for a Petite Arvine - a variety normally producing quite light, delicate and "Alpine" white wines. I never knew Petite Arvine could achieve this level of power and concentration. Seeing how Chappaz says the wine has cellaring potential of 10-15 years might sound funny if you know your Arvines, but it all makes sense once you've tasted this. This is an extraordinary powerhouse of a wine, but still so beautifully balanced, fresh and structured at the same time. Not affordable at 60 CHF (55€), but really delivers for the price.

  • A day 2 note.

Light gold in the glass, with a focused nose that is more about minerality than fruit.

Light- to medium-bodied on the palate, decent acidity, with a honeyed note as well. Very likable, although at least here in the states, the QPR is questionable.
