  • This 18-year old Sardinia wine is made of Vermentino, a grape with some intensity when made by Argiolas and it is known for having a larger frame and capable of some age. However, 18 years is a lot of age. The wine was orangy and with a bit of amber in color. The nose was clean with complexity. On the palate, there is virtually no hint of oxidation but complex fruit and softness from age. The fruit was pineapple and there is a touch of resin also but pleasant all around. It is not a recommendation for keeping an Argiolas Vermentino for this long but it is a fine wine and still enjoyable with a plate of pappardelle with clams, shrimp and mushroom in a white wine sauce made of the same wine. Just being drinkable is an achievement for an Italian white wine usually known for crisp and light characteristics.
