A well aged Moulis with a composition of 62% CS, 32% Merlot, 6% PV. Medium+ garnet red colour. Medium intesity fragrant aroma of cherries, red currants, cranberries, tobacco, oak, vanilla, violets, rose petals, forest floor. Medium body, at first it is vibrant and lively, later it soothes to lean but velvety texture and bright but balanced acidity. Concludes with structured finely grained tannins, oaky finish.

As with the last couple of bottles this is in a great place now and a reminder of how good 2005 clarets are and how long they are taking to come around! This is my last of the 05 Maucaillou, sorry for the ones I drank too soon. I've not had the good fortune to try a lot of classed growths but I'm guessing they may still be quite backward.

Starting to drink better but still very primary, with a rich, powerful structure that becomes hard work after a couple of glasses. It will certainly improve further.

Once again I'm really enjoying this. Lovely plummy Merlot supporting structured Cabernet Sauvignon. Struck by the level of acidity initially but comes into balance after time in the decanter. Drinking outside in a beautiful Easter evening which, as the wine cools, reminds me what a difference it makes to serve wine at the appropriate temperature. Penultimate bottle and seemingly no rush on the last one, good to 2022 in my opinion.
