Crunchy, bright, youthful - never thought I'd be saying that about a (almost) 10 yr old Aussie chardonnay. It is a more austere style and so perhaps not to everyone's taste. I like it though.

Fresh, excellent acidity and minerality, no malo, fruit is austere but it is a refreshing Chard at the tail end of its ideal drinking window. Drink now.

Cool Climate becomes very clear here. Extremely fine on the nose, almost like Mosel Riesling, still reductive, somewhat waxy, smoky, definitely with pressure on the palate and with power, quite balanced and very elegant. It had length, was full-bodied, there was definitely toffee and wood, but it was well integrated. The finish was salty, cool, fresh and straightforward. And now again the impression from five years ago: "The wine turned me on the evening before the tasting with its slightly exotic but by no means clumsy nose, its freshness and precision on the palate. But at the tasting, there was not much left of the mineral tension and precision. The first impression was: "That's not a Chardonnay, it's so fragrant, it's Pinot Blanc," and that wouldn't even have been bad. But on the palate, the freshness had given way to a certain soapiness, the tension was on the ropes. That was a pity. A wine for one evening, then." That's how you can be wrong, that's how a wine can develop!

Funky, flinty, oyster shell. There’s oak, yes, but it’s acid to the fore. A deceptively complex wine.
