A private lunch with friends (Restaurant Bak, Amsterdam, NL): Classic Rully, typical 2013, ripe fruit with a tropical edge, delicately earthy, perfectly integrated oak, quite broad in style, silky texture, ripe but fresh acidity, lovely flavours and length. Very good.

2014 de Villaine Wines with Winemaker Pierre de Benoist (Dig Wines, San Francisco): This was the only 2013 in the tasting. Completely different nose from the first 2 whites-vanilla, light caramel, orange, spice, even cherry. Broader, some lees, lactic, long and definitely wood influenced. Not high acid for the vintage but some underlying soil. Impressive breadth and depth: I don't think I've ever had such a profound Rully that essentially behaved like a Côte de Beaune Premier Cru. Terrific showing.
